Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Mother Responds to Income Tax Notice Amid 'Empuraan' Controversy
Mallika Sukumaran Defends Son, Says “We Are Not Afraid” Amid IT Notice and ED Probe
Amid political tensions surrounding the film L2: Empuraan, actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran has received an Income Tax notice concerning his remuneration for three films in 2022. The development coincides with an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation into the film’s co-producer, Gokulam Gopalan.
In response, Prithviraj’s mother, veteran actress Mallika Sukumaran, broke her silence and expressed full support for her son. Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, she stated:
“My son has done nothing wrong. We are not afraid of any investigation.”
Mammootty Extends Emotional Support to Prithviraj’s Family
Mallika also thanked supporters and revealed that Malayalam megastar Mammootty, who is currently unwell, reached out with a heartwarming message. She shared:
“He is currently resting in Madras but still took the time to write, ‘It’s okay, Chechi. Let it all pass.’ That message brought tears to my eyes.”
Moved by the gesture, she added:
“Look at where Prithviraj stands and where Mammootty stands. Yet he took time to reach out. That’s the kind of artiste he is.”
‘Empuraan’ Faces Political Heat and Censor Board Cuts
The controversy around Empuraan escalated following its release on March 27, after some scenes—allegedly referencing the 2002 Gujarat riots—sparked backlash from certain right-wing groups.
In a move to address the uproar, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on April 2 approved 24 voluntary cuts proposed by the filmmakers. Despite the controversy, the film has drawn attention for its bold narrative and star-studded cast.
The Lucifer Franchise Continues
L2: Empuraan features Mohanlal in the lead and is the second installment in the Lucifer franchise. A third part in the series has already been announced, heightening anticipation among fans.
